Arete College - Ethical Leadership:
The highest values in an ethical debate often depend on the context and philosophical framework being used. For instance, commerce comes below community. However, some values are widely regarded as foundational across various ethical traditions and debates. Arete College accepts the following foundations, embedding them in its teachings and operation:
  1. Respect for Human Dignity
    • Recognizing the intrinsic worth of all individuals regardless of their background, beliefs, or actions.
  2. Justice
    • Ensuring fairness, equality, and the right distribution of benefits and burdens in society.
  3. Autonomy
    • Respecting individuals' rights to make informed decisions about their own lives.
  4. Compassion
    • Acting with empathy and care, especially toward those who are vulnerable or suffering.
  5. Truth and Honesty
    • Upholding integrity in communication and actions, ensuring transparency and trustworthiness.
  6. Non-Maleficence
    • Avoiding harm to others wherever possible.
  7. Beneficence
    • Actively contributing to the well-being and good of others.
  8. Accountability
    • Taking responsibility for one's actions and their consequences.
  9. Sustainability
    • Considering the long-term impact on future generations and the environment.
  10. Pluralism and Tolerance
    • Valuing diversity of thought, belief, and practice while seeking mutual understanding and respect.
Commercial ethics are always subservient to greater ethics. In ethical debate, prioritization these values often involve balancing conflict between them, such as autonomy versus beneficence or justice versus compassion. Arete College seeks always to  reflect the highest of these values, accepting they may shift depending on the specific circumstances and the ethical lens applied. In such circumstances Arete College welcomes debate which ensures progression and evolving understanding.
